Dr. Von Richter is a member of the SS and the Nazi party, and an expert in genetics and biotechnology. He originally began his work in the camps during World War II and implanted cybernetic organs in the bodies of dead prisoners, in an attempt to bring life to them so that they might serve in the Furher's armed forces. However, the Allied forces intervened and he made tracks for another part of the world, and once there continued his malevolent experiments.
Out of one of them emerged the Cyber Series, and they prospered well, but something was amiss, for the Cybers, having been built to be the perfection of humans, turned out too perfect and had wills of their own. They began disobeying their creator, which forced Dr. Von Richter to deactivate 4998 of them, leaving only Cybersix and her brother Cyber-29 alive. Cyber-29 unfortunately perished when he fell from a cliff; Cybersix made her way to Meridiana but the doctor followed as well, and she now battles his evil creations; she is the main character of the comic.
Cybersix's name comes from the tattoo on her arm (CYBER SIX). Like the other "cybers", Cybersix has superhuman strength and agility. She adopted the identity of a boy killed in a car wreck, Adrian Seidelman, and eventually became a literature teacher for high school students. She lives alone as a male in the fictitious city of Meridiana.
Though Meridiana does not exist, several elements on the show hint at it being modelled after Buenos Aires, and those elements include the vast amount of sculpture throughout the metropolis, numerous outdoor markets and open-air cafes along with the program's background music.
Like all of Von Richter's creations, Cybersix is dependent on a fluid called "sustenance". When her supply ran out, she was forced to prowl the city, looking for other creatures of Von Richter, such as Fixed Ideas or Technos, that have infiltrated the city. She kills them and takes their sustenace to survive. The way she gets the sustenance is different between the TV series and the original comic book. In the show, after one of Von Richter's creations dies, it dissapears and leaves a vial with the sustenance inside that Cybersix then opens and drinks. In the comic book, Cybersix sucks the sustenance from the neck of the Technos, Fixed Ideas, etc. as if she were a vampire, she doesn't have fangs however, all she does is make a wound at the necks with her teeth, and then sucks the sustenance that comes out of the wound.
Almost by accident, she became a superhero by defending the people of her city from Von Richter's schemes, often carried out by his clone "son" José. Along the way, she met Data 7, a black panther with the brain of her brother "Cyber 29", and fell in love with a biology teacher cum reporter, Lucas Amato. Lucas Amato is also in love with Cybersix and is unaware that his best friend, Adrian Seidelman, is Cybersix's alter ego.
Prowling the city at night for sustenance, Cybersix wears a black bodysuit, a black cape with red lining, a black hat, and black fingerless gloves. In the comic, she took her outfit from a Techno prostitute.
There was a live-action TV series made in Argentina as well as a Japanese-Canadian animated series, which was heavily toned-down from the comics; the violence was much reduced and the sex and drugs were left out completely.
