Wikipedia-Article "Peter Bagge"

Peter Bagge (born December 11, 1957) is an American comics artist and creator of Hate, Neat Stuff, Martini Baton, and Sweatshop. His stories often use black humor and exaggeratedly "cartoonish" art and dramatize the reduced expectations of middle-class Americans, especially youth.

He was born in Peekskill, New York. In the mid-'70s he briefly attended the School of Visual Arts in New York. He edited Weirdo from 1983 to 1986.

'Hate', his best-known work, became popular within the grunge rock movement among people who were not comics fans, in part because the comic was a satire of "alternative" youth culture.

One of the most successful of the alternative comics creators, Bagge has recently adopted some customs of mainstream comics - comics produced by a "team." The subject matter of his latest effort, Sweatshop, is less edgy, and it's published by mainstream publisher DC Comics.

In 2005, Bagge produced a 6-part series, Apocalypse Nerd, published by Dark Horse.

Peter Bagge lives in Seattle, contributes to Reason and MAD Magazine and pens "Adventures of Batboy" for the Weekly World News.

He has received recognition for his work in the comics field, including nominations for the Harvey Special Award for Humor each year from 1990 through 1999. He was also nominated for the Squiddy Awards for Favorite Artist in 1991 and 1992, the Award for Favorite Penciller in 1995, and the Award for Favorite Writer in 1990, 1991, and 1993.
