Jeffery Deaver (born 1950, near Chicago) is a mystery/crime writer. He originally started working as a Journalist, but trained as a Lawyer and later practised law.
Many of his books tend to promote lateral thinking, particularly his short story collection Twisted Tales. One of his books, The Blue Nowhere, features hackers (one using social engineering to commit murder), as well as a law enforcement computer crime unit. His most popular series feature his regular character Lincoln Rhyme, a quadriplegic detective and Amelia Sachs.
Two of Deaver's novels have been produced into movies: The Bone Collector (1999), and A Maiden's Grave as the TV movie Dead Silence (1997).
