Joolz Denby (1955-) (previously more widely known simply as Joolz) is a poet and novelist based out of Bradford. Initially, known simmply as Joolz, Denby first garned recognitin for herself as a touring "punk" performance poet and one of the first to gain recognition in modern times, often performing at the same venue as musical acts. Starting in 1983 with singles, spoken word recordings, sometimes solo, but usally in collaboration with musicians Jah Wobble, the cult band New Model Army and with New Model Army's guitarist Justin Sullivan and as well as Denby's partner. Denby also illustrated much of NMA's sleeve art, as well as those of her own releases.
Subsequently, she published poetry collections and, from 2000 onwards, novels. Denby continues to perform at live venues, appears on television and radio, has appeared on audio books, including two based on two of her novels, manages the band New York Alcohol Anxiety Attack, works on screenplay projects with film maker Jean-Manuel Moreau and accepts comissions for her poetry, including an eponymous one (later adapted into a short film) for the government of Bradford as part of the city's bid for 2008 Capital of Culture.
As of December 2005, Denby has a fourth novel, Borrowed Light scheduled for publication in 2006 by Serpent's Tail) and an autobiography, The Invisible Child, among other forthcoming works.

Denby won the Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger award for her first novel, Stone Baby. The CWA also nominated the novel for a John Creasey Memorial Dagger prize for best first crime novel. Her third novel, BIllie Morgan, made the shortlist for the 2005 Orange Prize.
