6 Billion is a deliberately optimistic boardgame of space advocacy depicting human expansion in the Solar System.
The underlying premise for the game is that the human population will continue to grow exponentially throughout space, ensuring the long-term survival of the species, and spread Earth-based life throughout the galaxy.
The name of the game is taken from the United Nations Population Fund Day Of 6 Billion (12th October, 1999), which is the day that our world population officially reached 6 billion.
The game was inspired by Marshall Savage's book The Millennial Project: Colonizing the Galaxy in Eight Easy Steps and was strongly influenced by the writings of Malthus.
6 Billion focuses on our transition from a Type-I to Type-II civilization on the Kardashev scale.
6 Billion was listed at number 9 in the GAMES 100 for 2001.
