  • an abbreviated/diminutive form of the Western male name Donald.
  • In Sri Lankan culture those of portuguese decent some people of higher caste where bestowed the title of Don for men and Doña for women.e.g. Don Manoj Gihan Silvapulle
  • An (obsolescent) colloquial term for a Spanish person. The word appears in Henry Newbolt's poem "Drake's Drum": "If the dons sight Devon, I'll quit the port of heaven...".
  • Don is also commonly used as a general term for mafia bosses, coming from the Italian term
