Universal Combat (UC) is a personal computer game for the Windows operating system developed by Derek Smart. Released February 5, 2004, as a budget release, a newer version called Universal Combat - A World Apart, was recently released online only in September of 2005.

Universal Combat is a combination fighter simulator, space simulator, and shooter. Game play can be switched from a first-person mode to a third person mode at any time. Universal Combat is known for its very large game world and focus on realism.

What makes UC unique among video games is the fact that for the most part, you can do whatever you want. You're in command of a Battleship that holds up to 8 fighters (that you can pilot, and dogfight with), 4 shuttle craft (that you can pilot and trade, or run marines to the planet with) and 4 All Terrain Vehicles (that you can drive on planet surfaces). Planets can be landed on directly, or can be Transported to along with an away team to the surface. The most impressive aspect of the game is the scale of everything. Cities are miles apart, flying takes at least half hour, driving takes hours, walking would take weeks. The the scale of vehicles, ships, spacestations and planets are all realistic. These aspects have all contributed both to the games appeal and lack of appeal; it can be incredibly daunting for newcomers and some think the realism detracts from the games fun factor. As Sci Fi Stated in their review, "Say a guy comes up to you at the local canteen on Mars and says he has a star ship you can have — no strings, right now, for free. The catch is, you have to figure out how to make it work..."

It should be noted that in terms of gameplay, Universal Combat differs only very slightly from its predecessors: Battlecruiser Millennium and Battlecruiser Millenium Gold, though this is not unheard of in regards to video game sequels.

It is also known for having the current worst rating on Something Awful.com, at a -73 on a scale from 50 to -50.
