Sega Soccer Slam is much different that standard traditional real-life sports games such as FIFA 06 because of its exaggerated interpretation of soccer, making it resemble more like games such as NBA Jam or NFL Blitz. Sega Soccer Slam includes an exhibition mode,a practice mode, a tourney mode, and a quest mode.
The practice mode is mostly a step-by-step instruction of how to play the game, teaching the player maneuvers including steals, passing, shooting, dekes, volleys, as well as more complicated moves such as spotlight shot , killer kick, and killer shot (an incredibly powerful shot that can be accessed when the charge bottom at the bootom of the screen reaches it's maximum through doing basic moves). The practice mode is essential for both masters and newcomers to prepare for the exhibition, tourney, and quest parts of the game.
The exhibition mode is similar to that of most other sport games. In it, you are allowed to choose your own opponent and team as well as a stadium to play in. The other mode, tourney mode, is where the player can play in a tournament that lasts for a few days.
Other than the gameplay options said above, Sega Soccer Slam also has a quest mode. In quest mode the player chooses one of five teams and then competes in a series of ten games. Through winning these games the player can accumulate money which can be used to buy power-up items and unlock character art. Such powerups include necklaces and jetpacks that can enhance your gameplay .
The graphics are very stylish, and each character in the game has his or her own special design alomg with a variety of facial animations and expressions. However, one major problem is that even though the game has exellent character designs, the stadiums you can choose from are very dull and empty (though there are unlockable stadiums that look much better than the normal ones).
