A*Teens (or A-Teens) is a pop music group from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1998 as ABBA Teens (and later renamed to A*Teens), they have sold over 8 million albums and 1.5 million singles worldwide. The bands lineup consists of four members all born in Sweden:

They were first called ABBA Teens, but Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson from the original ABBA group, asked them to change the name to avoid confusion. This choice turns out to be better than expected, so the band could be able to create their own music, and not be solely based around ABBA. So, they shortened their name to A*Teens.
In 1999, they released their first album ABBA Generation consisting purely of ABBA covers. During that year, the A-Teens toured some with *NSYNC, and even were on a few shows with headliner Britney Spears. After they released their second album, Teen Spirit, a year later, they toured in the US with Aaron Carter.
Their next album released in 2002 as Pop 'Til You Drop in the US, and in 2003 as New Arrival, in Europe and Asia. The group headlined their own tour that year with Play, LMNT and Jump 5.
Their lastest album Greatest Hits was released in Europe in 2004, but not until 2005 in the US, leaving some American fans no alternative but to import the album. This album contains new songs, including a cover of Nick Kamen's single I Promised Myself.
Their video for the ABBA cover "Dancing Queen" bears an unmistakable likeness plotwise to the 1985 John Hughes film The Breakfast Club. In addition the principal in the music video was played by Paul Gleason, the same actor who was the principal in the movie.
In late 2004, Dhani Lennevald released his first single as a solo artist titled Girl Talk.

The A*Teens fanbase consists largely of teenage females and gay men; most of whom are European, although a fair amount of the online fans are American. These fans range from the mildly interested to the passionately obsessed. Many are known to engage in fan fiction.
The first A*Teens fan fiction can, most likely, be attributed to a fan known as Ingrid (former owner of the now non-existent fansite Somewhere in the Crowd) and was probably written some time in late 2000. Though the practice has decreased in popularity, some users continue to write A*Teens fan fiction.
Fan fiction is seemingly encouraged by the band, as their official discussion board contains an entire forum dedicated to the stories. Such encouragement of Real Person Fiction is generally unheard of. As a result of this encouragement, vast amounts of online A*Teens fans write fan fiction, which is comprised primarily of self-insertion and shippers dealing with favorite band members (with such pairings as Dhani/Sara [DS] and Amit/Marie [AM]).
Some writers in A*Teens fandom break away from this norm, however, claiming that such fan fiction is cliché and that A*Teens fan fiction deserves fresh plot-lines, and have formed a sect responsible for pieces such as Confessions of a Cherry Suicide by Crying_Angel and The Strangers by Web417, both of which ironically contain shipping elements and can still be found on the internet.
