He is the younger brother of Nick Carter of the boy band Backstreet Boys. He also has three sisters: twin sister Angel Carter (a model), Bobbie Jean Carter, and Leslie Carter.
Carter is a singer and songwriter who performs kid-friendly rap, romantic ballads, and hip-hop. He plays several instruments, including drums, piano, guitar, and saxophone; however, he normally does not perform as a member of his band during concerts. Carter is a skilled dancer who has done some of his own choreography. An athlete, Carter often includes gymnastic feats in his concerts.
Aaron Carter began his musical career at age seven, spending two years as lead singer of the band "Dead End".
He was nine years old when he made his first solo appearance, opening for the Backstreet Boys in Berlin in March 1997. The performance was followed by a record contract, and in the fall of 1997, he released his first single, "Crush On You".
His first full-length album came out Dec 1, 1997. The eponymous debut album Aaron Carter achieved gold status in Norway, Spain, Denmark, Canada, and Germany. The album was released in the United States June 16, 1998 (1).
In May 18, 1998, Carter released the EP "Let The Music Heal Your Soul". The record was actually a fund-raising project that featured vocals by Carter, the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, the Moffatts, and other artists (collectively referred to as the "Bravo All-Stars" after the German youth magazine Bravo).
Carter's next album, Aaron's Party (Sep 26, 2000), was released in the United States under the JIVE Label. The album achieved triple-platinum certification (2), although music critics faulted it for juvenile lyrics and substandard singing. Aaron's Party was followed by a compilation of music videos (Oct 10, 2000) and a concert DVD (July 31, 2001).
At 13, Carter recorded the album Oh, Aaron (Aug 7, 2001) which featured his first duet recording with brother Nick. Oh, Aaron was accompanied by a video/DVD of the same name (Mar 26, 2002) which included footage of his 2001 concert in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as well as music videos and interviews. Play Along Toys also created an Aaron Carter action figure in conjuction with the album's release (3).
Carter's next album, Another Earthquake (Sep 3, 2002), was released during the 2002 "Rock, Rap, and Retro" tour. The album featured the patriotic-themed "America A O" and the ballad "Do You Remember."
Most Requested Hits was released Nov 3, 2003. The collection included tracks from his last three albums as well as a new single, "One Better".
Carter's CD single "Saturday Night" came out Mar 22, 2005. The song was also featured in the Popstar soundtrack (Oct 18, 2005).
Aaron Carter was featured on several soundtracks, including Pokemon: The First Movie (1999), Rugrats In Paris: The Movie (2000), Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (2001), and The Princess Diaries (2001).

Expanding to feature films, Carter had a cameo in the 2004 comedy Fat Albert. His first lead role in a feature was in Popstar (2005) which borrowed heavily from his own life as a performer. A real-life motocross racer, Carter played a similar role in Supercross: The Movie (2006).
Carter is 6' 0½" tall, and weighs an athletic 155 lbs. He is very active in sports, especially water sports (surfing, swimming, scuba diving, kayaking), soccer, golf, baseball, football and motocross bike racing.
Carter is an avid basketball player. While on tour, he enjoys playing games with his tour mates, and has even been known to shoot baskets on stage during his concerts. He partnered with NBA's Shaquille O'Neal for the music video to "That's How I Beat Shaq." In Jan 2005, he joined brother Nick in Whittier, CA and played a game with the Hollywood Knights celebrity basketball team, raising money for local Los Angeles schools.
In addition to sports, Carter enjoys working out (4). At 14, he took up weightlifting and boosted his body weight from 120 lbs to 140 lbs. In June 2002, Carter's parents filed suit against his former manager Lou Pearlman for failure to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties on the teenager's 1998 self-titled debut album, which was released through Pearlman's label and production company, Trans Continental. On March 13, 2003, Pearlman was declared in contempt of court for ignoring a court order to produce documents relating to royalty payments.
As of Nov 2005, Carter still had 4 albums left to do toward the 5-album contract with Pearlman.
Carter's parents separated in March 2003 and filed for divorce. In December 2003, Carter filed for legal emancipation to cut off his relationship with his mother, alleging she took more than $100,000 from his bank account without his permission. The two resolved their differences the following January, and the filing was withdrawn.
Since his parents' divorce, Aaron Carter has lived with his father in Marathon, Florida.
