Saint's Row is a video game that is currently in development for the Xbox 360 by Volition. The game will be published by THQ. The game is heavily inspired by the Grand Theft Auto series.
The player is a gang member from Stillwater trying to gain control of the streets. The customization features are slightly similar to The Sims 2, for example, the race of your character can be determined, body type, and even several features from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas like tattoos and hairstyle will be available. You start as a low ranking members of the 3rd Street Saints, a gang that is under attack from three other gangs that dominate the city of Stilwater. In order to survive, you quickly realize that you have to win this fight and take over the city.
You do this one neighborhood at a time. In each neighborhood, there are a certain number of things you can do, ranging from street racing, to pimping to Hijacking etc. When you take on the missions you earn respect in that area.
The game has a unique Respect system and characters will react differently to you depending on what you have done in the past and your respect levels. You also have to be careful and think about what you are doing. Every action you take in the game will affect your respect level, how you customize your player, how violent you are, if all you are overly violent it will be very tough to take over the city.
You can become king pin without completing the missions instead you can arrange races and build respect that way. But by completing missions you can unlock jewelry, designer clothes, tattoos and other cool stuff to your crib. As you take over new areas of the city you will have different cribs so you can store more merchandise and cars.
Once you’ve earned enough respect in a neighborhood another story mission or the location of an enemy stronghold is revealed to you. Completing the story mission or taking over the stronghold, earns you the neighborhood.
You can judge how well known you are with the various factions and the cops in the city by taking a look at the reputation meters in the corner of the screen; the higher these bars get, the more dangerous it becomes in that gang's turf.
Once your reputation meter increases you can either get the hell out of that area until it decreases or get plastic surgery. Of course plastic surgery costs lots of cash so you’ll need to beat pedestrians over the head and snatch their money or break into stores and rob the place before the cops find you.
You can also call in your homies to help you out. Players can obtain these computer-controlled gangmates throughout the game, unlocking additional homies as they progress through the missions.
