Brotherhood of the Wolf (original French title Le Pacte des loups) was a 2001 movie directed by Christophe Gans, starring Samuel Le Bihan, Vincent Cassel, Monica Bellucci and Mark Dacascos, and written by Gans and Stéphane Cabel.
Its plot revolves around a series of murders caused by an unknown animal in 18th century France. The animal in question is the Beast of Gévaudan, an actual historical mystery. Common opinion holds that it was a large wolf but contemporary accounts indicated that the wounds of the beast's victims implied a much larger animal.
Stylistically the movie is an extreme pastiche. In addition to being a historical drama/fantasy/horror movie it also borrows liberally from kung fu movies and contains elements of erotica and humor.
The film has been called the highest grossing French movie ever.
