Petroşani (Hungarian: Petrozsény, German: Petroschen) is a city in Hunedoara county, Romania, with a population of 45,447 (2002).
Coal can be found near Petroşani and today coal mining is an important part of the city's economy. The exploatation of coal began in the 19th century and the town was developed during the communist regime of Romania and the population of the town grew rapidly, as workers, mostly from Moldavia, were settled here.
