Reşiţa (Hungarian Resicabánya, German Reschitz) is a city in western Romania and capital of Caraş-Severin County, in Banat.
Former Austrian Crownland. Founded in the times of the Great Austrian Empire, this city was of great importance to the Austrian Crown due to the industrialisation in the area and the strategic geographical positioning.
An important iron and steel center, Reşiţa is the site of blast furnaces, iron foundries, and plants producing electrical appliances, chemicals, machinery, and metals. A mining centre in Roman times, the present-day city was founded in the 18th century when a foundry was established here. Population (2004) 83,985.
The name of Reşiţa has its origin in Slavic "Rechitza", which is derived from "reka", river.
Also, the city is a centre point to leisure locations all around. Near Reşiţa, not so far away, you can find the well known Ski Resort - Semenic, as well as The Gozna lake (also known as Crivaia, The Secu lake and the Trei Ape lake.
