Wikipedia-Article "Methodology"

Methodology of epistemology. Most sciences have their own specific methods. Methodology is often erroneously used synonymously with "method", particularly a complex method or body of methods, rules, and postulates employed by a discipline.

In software engineering and project management, 'methodology' is also erroneously used to refer to a codified set of recommended practices, sometimes accompanied by training materials, formal educational programs, worksheets, and diagramming tools. The proper term is 'method'. Methodology is the study and knowledge of methods.

The term is also used in the humanities; in literary criticism, a methodology refers to the critical approach, theoretical heuristics, and assumptions about the relationship with the historical and literary context with which a critic analyzes a particular text.

Using a specific method to determine results.
