Hangar 18 is a 1980 movie that was released to capitalize on the UFO interest of the era. For those "in the know", it carries ties to Area 51, as well as UFOlogy. Although it flopped rather badly (reportedly earning a gross of only $6 million), it tantalized those who saw government cover-ups of UFOs (such as the Roswell incident) as dirty laundry needing to be aired. The promise of escalating these issues and forcing the government's hand was never fulfilled. In May 1989, Hangar 18 was featured as an episode of movie-mocking television show Mystery Science Theater 3000.
The American Heavy Metal band Megadeth did a song called "Hangar 18" on their 1990 album Rust in Peace. Megadeth also did a follow up on their 2001 album The World Needs a Hero called "Return to Hangar".
Hangar 18 is also a three-person hip hop group on Definitive Jux records.
Hangar 18 may also refer to an Indoor Rock Climbing Gym in Upland, California. See below.
