The PBC was formed in 1990 with seven charter universities as the Peach Belt Athletic Conference, and took its current name in 2000. The PBC does not compete in football.
Currently, the PBC has 11 members. Two schools, Kennesaw State and North Florida, departed in 2005 to join the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference, while North Georgia joined at the same time.
